Amazon, Machu Picchu, & Galapagos
Another fantastic OAT trip but this one really wore us down with 10 different hotel stays and 12 flight segments in 23 days throughout the trip. Luckily, we had another great group of 14 adventurers as part of our team. Didn't know what to expect from the Amazon rainforest. We stayed at the Ceiba Tops Lodge which had a great balance of comfort while still maintaining a jungle vibe. Visited an indigenous tribe, fished for piranha, walked across the tops of a cloud forest, and learned about the flora and fauna of the Amazon. Very much enjoyed Peruvian ceviche. Flew to Cuzco from Lima and weathered the altitude pretty well. We visited Machu Picchu only 2 days but stayed 5 days to acclimate at altitude and discover Sacred Valley, Urubamba, Aguas Caliente, and Cuzco. Learned how amazing the Inca culture was and how much of the Americas they controlled. Coca is a basic commodity of life in this area despite it being the source ingredient of cocaine.
